Locomotive

The Steam Engine Locomotive Trains
Rode along the hills and plains
At crossings, sounding the horn
Along fields of harvested corn
Through tunnels dug in mountains
Drove during sunshine, snow and rain
How I love to ride it again!
Once it transported coal and lumber
Each holiday we travelled far
Was to remember
Now slowly receding into a slumber
It being a mechanical wonder to explain
Now only in paintings in museums and gallery
Or on a tour of the memory lane.

The Trains driven by the engines have gone through centuries of evolution. It has moved on from the nostalgia of the beautiful enormous heavy chugging steam engine rolling down the country side to the speedy much lighter and super efficient bullet trains.

However in the perspective of art and romanticism one would always associate with the original slow smoking chugging and blowing its horn steam engines. A trip to the beautiful hills of Ootacamund where we happened to travel with our family of three generations made me dream and become one with this past recollection and childhood vacations.

The locomotive serves as a metaphor for life as a journey. It continues to move on through different terrains, symbolic to the challenges of life. It continues to move on its assigned tracks; signifying a person with principles and boundaries. Moving on towards life’s new adventures, seeking growth and new beginnings.
