Mariners in unchartered waters are thankful to the lighthouses that are often found on rocky cliffs or sandy shoals on land, on wave-swept reefs in the sea, and at entrances to harbours and bays. They serve to warn sailors of dangerous shallows and perilous rocky coasts, and help guide vessels safely into and out of harbours.
My painting here, utilizes this as a metaphor and is a portrait of how sometimes our lives are caught up in choppy waters. In such moments, the presence of a mentor, depicted by the lighthouse with a beacon of light, is of immense help in guiding our lives in the right direction so that it doesn’t crash on the rocky shores.
This painting reminds us to have the ability to seek timely help when required, to re-charter one’s course in life. More importantly, this serves as a reminder to likewise be a beacon to others and steadfastly guide anyone who maybe struggling through difficult times.
